Whistler Custom Chalet

Rustic textures and modern minimalism with grand lakeside views

Facing the challenge of a building lot with large views but limited space for building, we designed and built a new home that provided our client with the large living spaces they wanted, and a custom home that has the feel of a restored, vintage Tyrollean chalet in the woods.

The floor plans make the best use of the steeply graded site, providing garage, ski storage entry at street level and entertaining level opening onto the lower lake side. The entry level houses four bedrooms, two of which feature soaring, vaulted ceilings and a wall of glass doors opening onto the views of the lake and ski hills. Entertaining and family spaces were placed on the lower level with another wall of sliding glass doors opening onto a large deck toward the lake front. The interior is a blend of Scandinavian Chalet and Modern Minimalism with an exposed steel structure offset by rough-hewn oak floors and feature walls.

We designed the Kitchen cabinets in rough hewn oak to blend into the wall, the kitchen also features an AGA cast iron stove imported from England to provide the focal point for the Great Room Kitchen. A secondary “commercial” kitchen is hidden out of sight and features a custom stainless steel wash-up area, open wire rack shelving and space for catering when needed. Bathrooms throughout feature unique imported tiles. Every room is designed to be a bright, easy-living, comfortable space for the casual Whistler lifestyle.
