Kitchen Counter Tops; Marble

You’d be surprised at the number of clients who ask me for marble counter tops in their kitchens.  This is likely influenced by the amount of marble tops seen in magazines and in design shows on television.  It looks fantastic when its very new or very old; its in between that its not so great.  Marble is a very porous material that will absorb red wine or tomato sauce in a flash.  It will also be etched by any vinegar, lemon or acidic fruit upon contact so you must be prepared to be diligent with your marble counter tops if you are bothered by stains or dull marks.  I’ve always advised clients to avoid marble for all of these reasons.  While the product is great looking, its a hard product to live with.
